A Clinical Observation of Tuberculous Meningitis in Childhood

Abstract
We observed 129 cases of tuberculous meningitis that were admitted to the department of pediatrics, Yyungpook National university Hospital during the 9 years from January, 1964 to December, 1972.
Thz results were as follows:
1) TI e annual incidence of patient was net decreased.
2)The seasonal incidence was highest in spring
3)The age incidence was highest in the age of 1 to 2, and 74.5% were under the age of 6 year. cf the 129 Cases, we fcurd the source of infection among Lmily members and most of them both parents.
5) At the time of admission, vomitirg and fever were the most common complaints.
6) Evidence of tuberculosis cutside the meninges was found in 69. 8% of Cases. A roentgenogram of chc.st was normal in 30.8% and miliary tuberculosis in 11.5%.
7) During hespita!:z3tion clinically favorable responses were obtained with treatment (I.N.H, P,A S., strectomycin and corticesteroid) in 65 cases (50.49.1), and 35 cases (19.4%) died.
8) In 9 Cases of the neurological seciuelae, aeizure was seen in 4 cases, hemipbgia in 2 CasS and personality disorder in 2 case.
